Success Stories

Heritage Interactive Services, LLC (HIS) is an environmental management company that specializes in finding innovative ways to reduce, reuse and recycle the waste streams generated by manufacturers. We help our clients decrease landfill use, increase efficiency and manage costs.

HIS manages all of the by-products generated at our customers’ North American facilities. By-products are any materials generated as part of the industrial or operational process that are not utilized in the end product and which cannot be sold and used for its originally intended purpose.

Automotive Industry Customer

In just over 18 months on-site, HIS helped this automotive assembly plant reach their five year goal of zero landfill.  They become the first automotive assembly plant in the country to achieve this coveted environmental accomplishment and winning a State Award for Manufacturing Recycling. HIS continues to work with our customers to find and implement continuous improvement efforts.

Consumer Products Industry Customer

HIS began providing service to this organization more than five years ago.  Since then, HIS has expanded its services to include four operating units of this large organization.   To date, two of this customer’s locations have achieved zero landfill.  Additionally, because this customer has high value commodities in their operation, our cost management efforts moved the customer from paying for services to receiving a net rebate.

Corporate Data Tracking/Sustainability Reporting

The corporate environmental department manager of a manufacturing client with heavy hazardous and industrial wastes had little information on the volumes of waste material generated at all of his facilities. HIS worked with the customer to define a set of codes to associate with each material category and disposition method.  HIS provided the client with reports showing by-product categories, management method, dollars spent, volumes and site comparisons.

 Steel Industry Customer

At a nationally known steel mill, Heritage Interactive Services achieved an 80 percent reduction in hazardous and special waste.  With a combination of input changes, production improvements, cleaning processes and other innovations, HIS staff accomplished these results in one year.  In particular, this company had previously disposed of empty spray paint cans as a hazardous waste.  Our staff used their knowledge and connections to set up a cleaning process so that the cans now are recycled.  This reduced their disposal of hazardous waste drums from 120 in 2008 to less than 10 in 2009.

Beverage Industry Customer
In 2006, working with a global manufacturer of metal beverage containers, Heritage Interactive Services provided a reuse solution for a waste water treatment filter cake waste stream.  This non-hazardous material comprised approximately 80 percent of the customer’s total landfill generation.  By looking beyond the “standard” recyclers and disposal companies, we were able to identify a suitable and cost-effective outlet to manage the material.  Since that time, HIS has expanded this best practice to eight additional facilities for this customer.  We continue to seek out additional cost-effective reuse and recycle options for their material.
